Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the life blood of our organization. Your generosity and commitment to RTVOS ensure low-income neighbors live independently in safety and comfort. We have volunteer opportunities through-out the year, whether in the office, warehouse, or on job-site, RTVOS can find ways to utilize the wealth of skills volunteers bring to projects.
In addition to volunteering, RTVOS projects are great team-building opportunities. Our Rebuilding Day event is an opportunity for your business employees or organization members to be proud of its members/employees, the company they work for and the community they live in.
Senior Fall Prevention Service program:
Volunteers seeking regular hands-on work opportunities are encouraged to explore our home safety program, Senior Fall Prevention Services. We do ask for regular commitment from volunteers involved in this program, and they must be able to work during normal business hours. Although formal construction skills are not required, working knowledge of hand-tools and speed-levels are desirable. RTVOS staff will provide additional training.
Rock-n-Roll Paint-a-Thon:
Teams of volunteers are recruited from families, businesses, churches, schools, social service and civic groups. The Paint-a-Thon management works with team leaders to develop self-sufficient teams that will perform quality work while experiencing personal satisfaction and enjoyment. All volunteers must be at least 14-years old and those under 18 must have a signed parental permission form. Ideally, each team should consist of 15-25 volunteers. Individual volunteers are needed to help run the program, deliver extra supplies, take pictures, etc. and are encouraged to call the office.
National Rebuilding Day:
General volunteers for this project typically come from the sponsoring organization that adopted a house. However, RTVOS is always looking for volunteers willing to serve as project managers for National Rebuilding Day, overseeing the projects from start to finish. This includes visiting with the homeowner or site contact to determine a scope of work, seeking in-kind donations, communicating clearly with volunteers, and handling any issues that arise. The time commitment averages about 30 hours for planning and preparation work per project. A Construction Captain must have experience in construction or home renovation.
To adopt a home for Rebuilding Day please contact the office for more details.
